A couple weeks ago, I finished my final year of schooling probably EVER. The last 17 or so years of my life I have been a student, and all of a sudden I’m not. Its the weirdest feeling ever, like I feel like I am going to wake up one day and have to go to class. With all these years of school under my belt, you would think they would all feel the same…. but nope! Senior year of college was definitely something I wish I knew more about before getting started, so here I am to tell you all I know about getting ready for that final year.
It goes by FAST!
I seriously wasn’t expecting my senior year to be over so quickly (I’m not complaining, but wow). It seems like one second you’re going through the beginning of semester syllabus and the next you’re going to graduation meetings and picking up stoles and cords. It may seem like a whole lot of time ahead of you now, but at the end of the year, I guarantee you that you will be looking for where all the time went.
This might be the last time you see your classmates.
This is something that hit me a few weeks before graduation. The girls I had been seeing every single day for four years were no longer going to be there every single day. It’s different from high school, because at least when you go visit your hometown you will still see some that you graduated with. After college, everyone goes their seperate ways to different parts of the world and it caan prove difficult to see them. I made the best of friends in my classes, and I am truly thankful for that.
Senioritis is a real thing and it STINKS.
Trust me, after a few weeks, you will be mentally done with everything. Say goodbye to your motivation because its gone. The real struggle is forcing yourself to do work when all you want to do is crawl up with some popcorn and netflix.
Thank your professors, they have done so much for you.
If your professors are anything like mine were, they give so much time and effort in helping you be successful. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for them. Make sure to thank them for all they do before you leave.
Make sure you take a second to breath during graduation. Its over in a blink of the eye.
I could not believe how fast the graduation ceremony went. You work so long for that moment, and then all of a sudden you are turning your back and leaving the place that you spent the last four years at for good. I am grateful I took tons of video and pictures during the ceremony so I could remember how great it felt to graduate and accomplish one of my dreams.
Go to all the end of year/ senior banquets. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
I went to every single banquet and end of year pizza party and I loved it! Being able to spend that little bit more time with those you are about to graduate with or leave is very important because those will be the moments you remember.
You are almost done! Don’t give up yet.
You have made it this far, and I know it seems daunting, but time is going to fly during your senior year. I hope you are able to make the most of it and take advantage of all that it has to offer with those who have helped you through.
