We’ve all struggled with something before. It doesn’t matter what it is, we have all had to overcome things that have been difficult to cope with. It sometimes feels like you’re climbing a mountain, but you can’t see the top. You’re tired. Exhausted, even. Trust me, one day you will reach the top and believe me when I say the view is absolutely incredible.
Life has a funny way of crashing down on you when you feel like you finally have your footing. So what’s the trick of getting back up and keeping on? Its not just one thing. We may never fully feel comfortable with the climb, but at least we can equip ourselves for making it more bearable.
Lean on others for support.
I know good and well I couldn’t do life on my own. Through the years, it has been my family and my friends who have really helped me get through the toughest parts of my life. Who else? God. Without the big man in the sky, I literally would not be here today. Without the support from those I love, I wouldn’t have gotten to the top of my mountain when I beat Parathyroid Disease. You really see who the real MVPs are after you get to the top of the mountain and you see who ended up climbing the whole way up with you.
Get through the bad while remembering the good.
Before every surgery I would talk to my then fiance (now husband) about future plans. I would talk to my family about what we would do when I got out of surgery or when I was healed. I think that thinking of the positives instead of focusing on the there and then is really important. You don’t want to focus on the climb and how much longer you have. Think about what you are going to do when you get to the top.
That being said, also appreciate where you are.
A lot of things remind me of my past. I might here a certain beep and I think of a hospital monitor. I might smell a certain smell and suddenly remember the moments they put the mask over me to put me asleep for one of my surgeries. I might hear a scream and suddenly be transported back to the night when I was a bad bus accident when I thought I was going to die. Although a lot of those memories still hurt badly, I have learned to appreciate them because I would not be on the mountain tops that I am on today without those experiences. Every bad thing that happens in you life builds up to all the good things that happen. In those moments, its almost impossible to see the good, trust me, I out of all people should know that. However, I am the poster child of everything happens for a reason. So just wait and see your reason.
Never give up.
There are going to be times you fall down and it feels like getting back up is too painful. There were times when I felt that giving up would be the best option. Getting back up would be unbearable. However, I look back now, and I am stronger because I got back up to fight again. I have had amazing, wonderful things happen to me, and they wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t get back up.
What I am trying to tell you is that it doesn’t matter where you’ve been. You are going to overcome everything that tries to block you from being successful, healthy, confident, etc. You won’t have to do it alone. Overcoming something isn’t just a battle you have to face on your own. So get out there and climb those mountains and reach those mountain tops, because life is beautiful despite the obstacles that try to slow us down.
For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
