A Letter to High School Me

Dear high school me,

Life seems so difficult now, but just know that this time will pass quicker than you know. Everything you are worrying about right now is something you will laugh at in the future. Hold your head up high, even when you feel like you don’t belong. You don’t belong, but that is a good thing. God has an amazing plan for you that isn’t in the small town you grew up in.

You’ll miss high school, but not enough to go back. Once you get out, you will see the world is a much bigger place than just the lockered hallways. One day, you will see the world, and you will realize that what you worried so much about is actually so little.

It will be done before you know it, so take it in. Take in the sound of the orchestra on opening night of musical. The sound of slamming locker doors. The smell of clay in the art room. The singing coming from the chorus room. That won’t be there one day.

Take advantage of being a kid, and although it is tempting, don’t rush it. Before you know it you will be having to worry about adult things like bills and how you are going to pay rent next month. You will be longing for the day where you didn’t have to even think about that kind of thing.

Someone will love you one day. In fact, that boy you met and went on a couple dates with is the one. Although you feel so unlovable right now, this guy will love you with all his heart. High School crushes and heart breaks will just prepare you for your forever person.

The friends you think that you will have forever could drift away, and that’s okay. God has better plans for you and for them, so if a friendship doesn’t withstand the move to college, it isn’t the end of the world. This doesn’t mean that you will grow away from all of them. You might keep in touch with one or two, and distance doesn’t do anything to them. Just be prepared.

There are a lot of really cool things you are doing right now. You won’t have the time or money to do them in the future, so try not to rush it. Go to all those concerts that come up. Those are memories that you will treasure forever. Also, I don’t want to tell you this, but One Direction breaks up….. Sorry! Their individual stuff is good though, so don’t be too sad.

You will face some dark times in the next few years. Don’t let it get the best of you. Let your light shine through the dark because the darkness will make you into who you are going to be.

One last thing, you never know what someone is going through in their life. Love with all your heart because you might just change someone’s life in the process. This goes the other way too. Don’t listen to mean things other people say to you. It isn’t worth you time, and you are so much better than that.
