A major problem that anyone from college students to professionals face is waking up and getting ready for work or class. Sometimes our style suffers as a result of hitting that snooze button one too many times. I am guilty of this more than once a week. I wake up, decide I didn’t sleep long enough, and do not leave enough time to get my makeup on and get dressed. Now, I am not saying this is a bad thing. In fact, I love wearing my gym clothes to class every now and then (talk about comfort!). Sometimes, though, dressing nice gives you a bit more confidence to face the day. Here are some of the tricks I use to make mornings less stressful, and to leave plenty of time to look your best.
Set your clothes out the night before.
When your clothes are already laid out for you, you feel more obligated to actually wear the clothes you took time to set out. Remember when you were a little kid and your mom chose what you were going to wear and set it out every morning before school? This is basically the same idea! Make sure to look at your calendar before you set out your clothes though, because that way you will know if you have a presentation to dress for, or if you are going to the gym straight from class. This goes for everything from clothes to shoes and jewelry. You want to make your morning as pain-free as possible.
Save your leftovers for lunch.
Make a little bit extra at dinner the night before, just so you do not have to worry about what you are going to pack for lunch when you wake up. I usually put my leftovers in tupperware containers and slip them into the fridge. Before I leave for class, I stuff them into a lunch bag and leave. It takes five seconds as opposed to forty five minutes, giving you enough time to get ready for the day.
Check your social medias AFTER you finish getting ready.
I know, I know, it is soooo tempting to check Facebook or Instagram as soon as you wake up. However, chances are you will have plenty of time after you finish getting ready to get your social media fix. When I get on social media as soon as my eyes open, I look at the time and I have easily wasted thirty minutes. I could have been done getting ready by that time! (It might be a good idea to check your email first thing though, because professors have canceled class before and I have still shown up!)
Pack your bag the night before.
I have found that packing my bookbag with the notebooks and textbooks I will need for the day the night before makes my mornings run a lot smoother. If you are a professional, this includes packing your computer bag or briefcase the night before. This will save you a lot of time from running around like a crazy person looking for the right notebook or textbook.
Breakfast to go.
More times than not, professors are totally cool with you eating in class. Bringing your breakfast on the run saves you a lot of time in the morning (and can help keep you awake when you get to your early class). I usually take a breakfast smoothie for some of my morning classes. You can also bring your morning cup of coffee the same way. Another easy thing to do is buy a box of frozen breakfast sandwiches and warm them up in the microwave as your rushing out the door.
With just these few tricks, I can guarantee you will have a more relaxing morning, leading to a productive, successful day!
